You can't make this stuff up!

So yesterday at work I'm talking to a delivery man who was dropping off some furniture at my job and he essentially starts the conversation by saying how he didn't like the neighborhood. I wasn't expecting a racist rant, but in my mind I wondered what kind of foolishness he had encountered. Sure enough he had been held up.
Driver: Man, I stopped at this liquor store up the street to buy some smokes and this guy pulled a gun on me and the owner.
Me: Just now? That sucks. Sorry you had to go through that.
D: I turned around and told the guy, "You've got to be kidding me. You picked the wrong guy to rob."
M: (In my mind) "I wonder where this is going. Maybe he said he had no money. He looks like a regular, blue-collar type of guy. How would I have responded, beyond probably soiling my pants?"
D: I took the gun out of his hand, emptied the chamber and magazine and gave him his gun back. I told him I've had much tougher guys point guns at me so he better be careful of who he waves that thing at.
M: That's crazy! (What else was I going to say?)
D: That's the first action I've seen in six months! You don't mess with Marines. I just did three tours in Afghanistan!
M: Shoot, if you're looking for action, I have plenty of other corner stores I can send you to.
D: No way. That was enough for me. He just turned around and walked out with his head down. Now that I think about it, I shouldn't have given him his gun back.
With that, he completed his task and took off.
In the news today I read that three people were shot later that night near this same corner. The shooter obviously hadn't heard about this guy.
