This is a quick, engaging read that should inspire even the most somber of us. Essentially, Marshal details how she overcame everything from abandonment to rape to earn a degree in engineering and a successfull career as a motivational speaker. She details abuse from a young age at the hands of her mother and the tribulations of navigating the world as a ward of the court in Detroit. While the majority of the book is an intimate look at her life, the latter part ends with strategies and tools for anyone looking to improve their situation. It gets a bit graphic at times, but this serves to help gain some appreciation for what she went through. A  few of my students read it and they loved it!
