While this book is not directly related to hip hop, it could be useful for anyone interested in the music industry. As a high powered music executive and producer, Bowen was instrumental in the careers of artists such as Frank Sinatra, Hank Williams, Jr. and Garth Brooks. Although his work was centered around rock and country music, because of the music business' interconnectedness, this book sheds valuable information in areas such as commercial radio and marketing. This is an autobiography and intertwines Bowens' personal life with his industry experience, going a long way in demystifying the industry. It gives a less than flattering portrayal of artists such as Jerry Lee Lewis and the aforementioned Brooks. It's a quick read, but not particularly engaging. You'll have to sort through a lot of fluff to get to the really useful information and I skipped the first three chapters entirely.
