Don't let the title fool you, this is some serious reading. Kelley asks what exactly does it mean to be a part of the "underclass" or ghetto? Who defines these terms? An academic text, he focuses on the economic decline of the inner city and how this has impacted everything from artistic expression, including hip hop, to class rifts among African-Americans.  The information and analysis is great but at times can get to be quite tedious for the casual reader.
