Music | DomingoYu.com - Hip-hop Education | Identity | Music

Music : Rooted in hip hop, but down to spin anything funky. From techno, to ghetto tech, to soul, to dancehall, everything is game. Education : Ideas and resources for using hip hop and popular culture to empower young people, as well as discuss issues related to social justice and diversity. Writings: Besides features and reviews on identity and urban pop culture, read the online journal of a twenty-something year old wandering the world in search of his lost self.

: Super Bowl Weekend

I was back in Detroit to do some DJing, namely a couple of corporate events co sponsored by ESPN, Cadillac, Gilette, and Miller Lite. I pride myself on being a more grassroots-oriented dude, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't mind doing events like this from time to time. It was pretty fun as the crowd was just looking to enjoy themselves. I'd almost compare it to a happy hour.

Press Item: One flew over a ghetto's nest

A Spring 2007 interview from France's Hell's Kitchen magazine. There are some stories tied to the techno group Underground Resistance, as well as some thoughts on the Bay Area's hyphy movement. The writer, Fabrice, and I spoke for hours over some good Indian food and he pulled some thoughts from this conversation. Some things were lost in translation (try explaing sideshows in French), but one thing I love about having my own website is I can clarify somethings.
Thanks to Marie for helping me translate. This isn't an exact translation, but I tried to word it to make sense and flow smoother in English. The original French version is at the Hell's Kitchen link above. My comments follow this version. Thanks again to Fabrice for hooking this up!
