Detroit Hip Hop Pics, 1996-98 (Eminem, Royce, etc)

Posted Mar 29 2006

May 1 2004 - Random hip-hop pics from Detroit and Ann Arbor dating between 1997 and 1999. I'll try and dig up more, but it's really a shame that I didn't take more pictures. My boy Mo Changes and I had this period when we actively tried to build up the connections between Detroit and Ann Arbor. We hosted a couple of shows at the University of Michigan featuring Detroit artists such as The Rabeez (including Swift of D-12), Eminem, Almighty Dreadnautz, Hush, b-boys such as U-Turn. We actually had our own B-boy crew in Ann Arbor called KHAOS, which was an offshoot of a crew out of Lansing. Our short-lived efforts to be the Asian and Latino kingpins of Michigan hip hop :) took us from Chicago's McCormick Center to the Ebony Showcase Lounge in the D. That pic of Proof is from the release party of the original Slim Shady EP, which was held at the Viper Room in late 1997. I think that couple pic was taken by Doug Coombe, a well-established photographer from Detroit, Some how it ended up in my collection! Note-I know these pics are ridiculously small, which was due to my old website. I'll try to rescan when possible.
