San Francisco, MAASU, Madison, Wisconsin

As the clich?? goes, when one door closes, others open. Things didn????t work out with the day job so I????m back on the grind doing what I love most, including traveling and connecting with new folks. I found myself wandering and working through California and presenting at the Midwest Asian American Student Union (MAASU) conference in Madison, WI. California is always an adventure and I included pics from an anti-President Bush rally in San Francisco on the one-year anniversary of the invasion of Iraq. In these particular images, some protestors blocked Market Street, one of S.F.????s main streets. Note the sign above the woman sitting in the street. On a lighter note, I added some pics from Club NV in San Francisco and an interesting billboard from Sunset Blvd. in L.A. I guess the personal ads weren????t working. That beach shot is from San Diego and is a reminder that in spite of how screwed up things up are in Cali why it????s hard for many of us to leave.
Regarding MAASU, it????s an annual conference focusing on the unique experiences and issues pertinent to Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders living/working in the Midwestern United States. This year????s presenters and performers included turntablist crew 5th Platoon, the Bay Area????s Native Guns, Chicago????s P.A.C.I.F.I.C.S., Mango Tribe, professor and author Frank Wu, and authors Iris Chang and Vickie Nam. Alongside Ann Pham, the Assistant Director of the University of Wisconsin????s Multicultural Student Center, I co-presented a two part workshop on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in hip hop. The workshop had a nice turnout and attracted over a 100 people.
