Taiwan Pics-August 2009

Posted Aug 10 2009

Although I've spent the majority of my time in the U.S. I was born in Taiwan and still consider it home in many ways. I've taken tons of pictures during my latest visit, which is Taipei based, although I have gotten out of the city a couple of times, thanks to family and friends. This first set of pictures include a visit to the town of Shengkeng, home of "stinky tofu," a visit to the Taipei Museum of Contemporary Art, a visit to Yilan to visit family, ShiDan Night Market, a night out with the Pan Africana Cultural Troupe, as well as an image of my cousin Jeng-Ying, who's now a soap opera star. It definitely wasn't a bad way to start off the trip! A special thanks to Mike and Ming-Chien for taking me around.

So let me get this straight: mosquito bites, belly aches, headaches and cuts are all treated with this red oil. What's the red oil name in Chinese? I don't think I know what it is XD

I didn't know about the cuts, but I can vouch for everything else. It's some concoction he learned how to make from some old school herbalist. I thought it was just another one of those Taiwanese things I never learned to say, but my mom doesn't know either. We always just had it around, but it came from him. Although I've never used it, maybe tiger balm is the equivalent?
