Tokyo Pics

Posted Jul 15 2007

While I took a bunch of typical tourist shots of buildings I figure that people are always more interesting and I tried to include some stuff that you won't find in the tourist books, as well as some of the people I kicked it with. I'd write more, but I have all kinds of writings posted so there's no need to get too deep. Check out other galleries from Japan: More Tokyo, Ogaki, Gifu, Japanese Schools, and Japanese class at Unity High in Oakland, CA.

Thank you for a great set of pics. I may just move back to Tokio myself.

This must have been an excellent trip. I remember some of the pictures shown in class (ironically taken in another class) but the sights here are just amazing. I found from the magazines you brought back that American and Latino cultures are big in Japan (or at least the stereotypes of those cultures are big there) but that store had the classic Oakland vibe with a bit more organization than most Oakland stores. I find it funny how different cultures are so interested in other cultures that they end up just going for a completely different stereotype. A real life example I find is the tendency for all the "cool" people in Argentine shows speak short, broken, and usually conceited sentences and the fascination in the music world that people have with music from Argentina (lately I have heard it is some of the best in the world). I would like to go visit Japan someday but I will need a contact there first, lest I end up like the common Bay Area tourist that goes to pier 39 to see "the culture of the Bay"
