Transformative Visions Street Art
Posted Jan 5 2013
Submissions for Transformative Visions show. These particular images reflect grass-roots efforts by communities to express their views, which often run contrary to corporate billboards that flood our neighborhoods. Beyond mere tagging or graffiti, these skilled muralists highlight important historical events, give insightful social commentary, or seek to beautify communities neglected by the powers at be. The first three murals, all in Oakland California, reflect the indigenous peoples of the Americas. The fourth is an abandoned building that was reclaimed and has now become part of a bar in the southern Taiwanese city of Tainan. The final photo was taken in the El Centro district of Havana, reflecting Cuban pride.
