Interview on Waakao Taiwan

After meeting up with Domingo Yu a few months ago on his recent visit to Taipei, his second home, we got a chance to sit and exchange a few words...and drinks with the traveler, teacher, dj and student of all things living and cultural. Waakao is happy to introduce this talented writer and dj who is also a mix of two cultures that rarely meet in Taiwan. Latin and Taiwanese.

• Nitty Gritty Studios Open Studio and BBQMusic Event Oakland-based artist Jamie Treacy opens up his studio to the community as part of the Pro Arts East Bay Open Studios program. Yours truly will be spinning from 2-6.
• Haight Ashbury Street Fair w/Alphabet RockersMusic Event If you have preschool or early elementary school aged students, put this show on your calendar! The Alphabet Rockers use a highly interactive show to teach concepts such as days of the week, referencing a curriculum that's been approved and used by classroom teachers around the country.
• Oakland Community Farmers' MarketMusic Event If you're in the Oakland area I highly recommend this one. While not large, the produce is good, they have jewelry, biscotti, and flowers for sale, and great food for lunch! I'll be spinning from 10is to 2 PM, mixing everything from hip hop to salsa to house.
• Essence of Spring FeverMusic Event "Meet the Young at Heart Dance." This is a fundraiser for the seniors program of "Our Family Circle" of Oakland, CA. This all-ages event is dancer friendly and will include line dancing music, salsa, R&B, Motown, and anything else to keep the crowd moving. Chicago Steppers, Detroit Ballroomers and all other dancers are especially encouraged to come! And yes, yours truly will be spinning!
• New Year's Eve 2009Playlist Crowd-pleasing tunes for NYE '09 at Frankie's and Ray's in Oakland, CA.
• Vinyl Preservation Society Top 10Playlist I connected with one of the founders of this Toronto-based newsletter during a recent trip to Detroit and he asked me for 10 vinyl releases I was into. • Nick's Place-Chicago, ILPlaylist I came out of semi-retirement for this private gig in Chicago. While focusing on the '70s-'90s I also snuck in some newer cuts.
• Toledo Mud Hens Latin Heritage NightPlaylist On Sunday, July 27th, the Toledo Mud Hens of Ohio celebrated the Latin heritage of their players and fans. My friend JaMay Edwards, who serves as the Manager of Promotions, asked me to put together some music for breaks during the day's game. Thanks for the opportunity JaMay!
• One flew over a ghetto's nestPress Item A Spring 2007 interview from France's Hell's Kitchen magazine. There are some stories tied to the techno group Underground Resistance, as well as some thoughts on the Bay Area's hyphy movement. The writer, Fabrice, and I spoke for hours over some good Indian food and he pulled some thoughts from this conversation. Some things were lost in translation (try explaing sideshows in French), but one thing I love about having my own website is I can clarify somethings. Thanks to Marie for helping me translate. This isn't an exact translation, but I tried to word it to make sense and flow smoother in English. The original French version is at the Hell's Kitchen link above. My comments follow this version.
